Why is my ex talking to me again?

My and I split up months ago. He saw me on a dating app and he texted me about it. We’ve been talking for two months now. But I really don’t understand him. When we meet he is absolutely fine. But he’s cancelled on me three times and I told him it wasn’t okay - he then says he wants to move on and doesn’t say a word for a week.

I accepted that and just started to move forward with life. He’s now randomly speaking to me again saying he said he wanted to move on because I wasn’t listening? He then said I moved on when I haven’t? He’s talking and sending snaps of himself to me but I don’t get this. He said I hurt him so badly etc in the past (I did nothing wrong - I just had bad mental health and was struggling). I said to him I don’t know where I stand with him and he kept avoiding that question until he finally said “you know where you do”. After he told me to move on before and disappeared for a week I accepted it and now I just don’t understand why he’s talking to me again? He doesn’t want to be friends clearly yet doesn’t want to move on either? He keeps reminding me that I am single yet gets jealous about the possibly of other men?

My mentality is as follow:
1. You will never know what's in someone's head. You might be able to ask them or take a reasonable guess, but you'll never know if you guessed right or if they are lying. So don't bother trying.

2. If you broke up, there was a reason for it, and it was a good reason. There's no reason to waste time on something that has already been tried and failed.

My advice? Don't try to understand why he says or does things. Doesn't matter. What matters is how you feel about what he says and does. And remember that you broke up once already. It's better to take a chance on an unknown than a known bad.

Probably wants to hook up without the emotional connection or something like that. Don't talk to this guy, he's wasting your time and sounds annoying asf. Just block him.
