Do you think this guy is just being nice?

I’m not sure if this guy likes me or if he’s just being nice, because whenever I ask him to hangout, he either says that he can’t because he has homework/class, or he’ll ask to get a group of people together. He’s hard to read.

Here are some of the things he has done that makes me think he’s interested:

Bought me food

Gave me a flower

Offered to pay for my groceries

Gave me $50 for giving him a ride

Told me that I could do better than my ex

Stands up for me

Always is making sure I’m not nervous and/or panicking (haha I do that a lot)

It always amazes me when women say doing the right things and being a gentleman is doing the bare minimum, then they go and screw guys who don't do any of the bare minimum things like being a decent human. So lesson is act like an abusive ass, get laid, be a decent guy, get friend zoned for life.

Kind of responding to something that a female wrote below about "the bare minimum" and I've seen this said before about being a good person as being the bare minimum, while so many fall short of even this bare minimum of being decent, but are rewarded with girlfriends or casual sex while other "bare minimum" guys are loners for life. I know life's not fair, but the losers shouldn't get more than decent guys. Just a little rant, sorry.

I do think he has ulterior motives, but so do most guys who are attracted to a girl. It sounds a little like he's going overboard and giving off a desperate vibe with the gas and groceries. He's probably thinking if he's generous, he'll be rewarded. Someone should do those things not expecting something in exchange.

Hypothetically, if he was expecting something in return, wouldn’t he agree to hangout with me when I ask, instead of being resistant?

I think you're right, it's odd, being so generous without going further and capitalizing on it, maybe he's just that kind of guy, who does nice things to help others. Some people do, even if they get used sometimes, they do it because it makes them feel better. You can invite him to do something and see if he's interested. That'll give you an idea of his level of interest.

He's doing the bare mimmium. Don't get confused. If he hasn't actually taken the time to get to know you then don't look any deeper. He is just a friend.

He has tried to get to know me when we’re in class, but that’s about it

What about outside of class? Like on a more personal level; I talk to my classmates all the time. We are in a room together; especially if the class takes longer than an hour. Gas prices are high if I guy a dude a ride then I would expect to be paid.

I’m trying to hangout with him outside of class, but he seems resistant. Gas prices are VERY high, but he only lives 10 minutes from me, so it wasn’t that far of a drive

Leave that man where he is at. He's not interested; if y'all lived close to each other and he still doesn't want to see you. That should tell you what this is.
