Why did he send me a good morning text the day after I turned down the possibility of dating?

The night before I told him I don't feel like I'm mentally ready for a relationship... trust issues, never dated and just afraid of jumping into anything with someone. I told him I like him as a person and that's why I don't want to waste his time because the whole dating thing and going out is just something out of my comfort zone and I'm not ready. He told me he appreciated my honesty and it's okay. The next morning he texted me... Good morning, I hope you have a wonderful day. Why is that?

I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt and assume he sent the good morning sort of as a peace treaty to show there are no hard feelings on his end, and if that is the case then that’s nice of him and mature. However if he becomes persistent in his efforts to date you (like flirting), then I would reiterate that I am not looking to date and ask that he please respect my decision otherwise we can’t even be friends. I also think I would adjust how much we talk (if you do often), and just try to make sure it’s clear that we are cool but my answer still stands.

One of 2 reasons IMHO. 1. You made the classic mistake of being too nice when rejecting him saying , "I don't feel like I'm ready". You might as well have just said to him "try harder and convince me to date you". Because that's how a guy is going to take a rejection that seems like the door is still open to a relationship.
Or 2. He's trying to save face. The rejection didn't bother him and he wants you to know that.
There is a slight possibility though. That he took his shot and missed, and he's fine with nothing changing though

Well, that's exactly what I wanted in a way... I like him but I'm scared. If he would've been like... I'm not giving up then I would know he's the one. He didn't do that. So, I guess it was for the best.

Yup. You didn't really want him. It's best he finds a girl who really wants to put forth some effort.

because he thinks there's still a chance. cause you told him "you're not ready". this implies that you will be ready at some point and that's why he didn't quit the game.

xD that's implicit to what i said in my first response. i'd think you just need time and stay persistent. that is of course if i was seriously interested in you. like you didn't tell him that you're not attracted. you didn't tell him that you don't want a relationship with him "in general". you said you're not ready. to me that means you could be ready in the future. it's not a hard "no".
