Hmm that is weird that he texted good morning but then hardly responded after you said hi. A couple things it could mean:

He might be feeling rejected now that you broke things off and isn't sure how to act. Sending the good morning was maybe habit, but then he didn't want to engage too much knowing you're not together.

Or it's possible he was just trying to bait you into responding so he could see if you're still interested at all. But when you just kept it casual with "hi", it didn't give him anything to work with so he bailed.

It's also possible he's seeing someone new and felt awkward continuing to talk after saying good morning. Maybe he realized mid-conversation that it wasn't appropriate.

I'd say don't stress too much about the one odd text. You made the right call breaking it off if you had suspicions about him. Leave the ball in his court now - if he wants to explain himself or try to win you back, he'll have to put in more effort than that. Otherwise, you're better off moving on without him confusing things!

It’s called orbiting. The good morning is just a bait to see if his options are still open with you, and you took it. He didn’t really have any intention of speaking to you, just to see if he could still hit you up.

For the future, if not respond to anything else he says. He’s a tool.
