Do guys expect something when going out on a date or nothing?

It might be worth checking with him before and making sure you're both on the same page in what you're looking for (if you haven't already, ie, friends with benefits, relationship, etc). Generally means there's "no expectations" for sex, if it happens it happens. But, it's also possible he means that in a general sense as in "no pressure" for anything and just trying to make the date as "relaxed" as possible. But if he made a point of saying this, it's worth just confirming with him that you're both looking for the same thing. It's not too early, this is often the very first thing people ask these days. No sense in wasting anyone's time if you're looking for different things.

If you mean sex, I never have expectations of that. She may be not feeling it
for any number of reasons. I flirt and if I don't feel the go ahead then
it's a kiss goodnight and maybe some other time. And there have been plenty of
times where I get a call to come over a couple of days later.

There are no rules, but generally if it's the first date, probably nothing. On a second date a goodnight kiss. Beyond that making out and eventually sex.

Sometimes, it depends on your mindset. Humans are pretty complex in that regard. Some live in the moment, others have anxiety, some just think about sex, you really can't generalize there.
