It might be to some. I would have absolutely no interest in saying yes to a man if he had no intention of taking me out on a date. However, what do you mean by gauging their interest? More like getting to know them better before taking them out when you feel "ready?" or just leading them on?

If I want to gauge a guy's interest, I'd flirt with him. If he reciprocates my flirting, it would be a yes, if not, it's a no.

I am not into hookups or casual dating, so I would not know. If someone was into those, I'd assume they would have no issues with you not dating them exclusively or long term.
