There is no one size fits all answer for this or any dating situation. The whole point of dating is to determine whether you are compatible for a longer term relationship, and if you are this uncomfortable asking them a question like that, you have a choice to make whether you want to get more comfortable or get moving. What happens when it’s time to go on a date, or eventually something more personal? Would you not ask anything about their preferences in those areas? An emotionally mature person understands that you aren’t a kind reader and if they want a relationship they would be happy to answer any questions about making your interactions more enjoyable for both of you.
