Hey guys, could I get opinions on why a guy would say: "Hey I just wanted to let you know I do have a girlfriend now so we can't no longer hangout, but we can still be friends!!" ?

I really enjoyed hooking up with him and genuinely do appreciate his company and would be happy to be his friend, but I don't want to seem like I’m allowing myself to be a backup option if him and his girlfriend don't work out.

Any advice on how I should respond is appreciated!

It might be good to hang out with him and his girlfriend together - kinda show her you respect their relationship and you and the boyfriend aren't friends with benefits anymore. Just platonic friends.

My last boyfriend had a friends with benefits that remained a good friend of his - she and I hit it off great, she understood our boundaries and she and I actually ended up becoming friends.
