My more recent on-off hookup (19M) just messaged me last night after ghosting me for three weeks saying that he's now in a relationship. He says we can't hangout anymore but still wants to be friends. I'm just confused on what's even the point of him still wanting to be friends when he hasn't even been talking to me...

I have a lot of appreciation for him even though I'm annoyed with his behavior, so I called him 'bestie' and agreed because I don't want to lose the connection.

Bestie is meant to be playful, and of course I’m annoyed! I didn’t like being told I can’t have sex with someone I like anymore because of another girl. Regardless ofc I’ll respect their relationship however I don’t enjoy it personally

I'm my opinion he's keeping you around as a backup. It's completely up to you how you handle the situation but don't exclude the option of seeing other people (even casually) just for him
