Like this one girl that would always call me up complaining about life. She wouldn't tell me where she lived, wouldn't go on a date, but would call me up drunk 2-3 Saturday nights a month.

Because you accept that behavior. Whatever you accept, that person knows they can act that way with you. These other guys probably would have hung up in her face the minute she started slurring her words. If you don't want to hear someone complain about life, then don't.
