When you're single & going out to bars/parties/group hangouts, how much of your trips are you hoping to interact with a cool/attractive person?

If I'm going out to one of those, I hope there are interesting people there. One person I met was involved in recovery of the Space Shuttle Columbia crash. Occasionally, it's ordinary people talking about some of their experiences.
Most of the time it's women. I normally gravitate towards women mainly because it's easier for me to start a conversation with women. Sometimes they're attractive and sometimes they are average looking. They may become friends or we may date. But I always expect to meet attractive, cool or interesting people.
