I have several single thoughts that have literally changed my life. Well, I read them in books.
    1. Tony Robbins, "Where focus goes energy flows." I now know why I do things, for example, go to a buffet. I think of it and energy moves towards it.
    2. Jim Rohn, "If you want something bad enough you will find a way. If not, then you will find an excuse." I applied this thought to my life and realized there are things that I thought I wanted but was not willing to put in the time, energy, and effort to do so.
    3. When I was in the military I was so jealous of people that had higher ranks and better life than me, especially officers. I was a college graduate but only enlisted. My Mom told me, "Don't be jealous of other people's success. If anything, applaud them for their accomplishments." This leads to another quote, "Don't wish things were easier, instead develop better skills."
    4. Eckhart Tolle, "Spirituality has nothing to do with your belief system but it has to do with your state of consciousness." Bruce Lee, "The greatest power on Earth is stillness with motion." So now I try to live a meditative and mindful lifestyle.

    There's two big ones

The first happened during a tough time in my life, I was really depressed, spinning my wheels but not going anywhere, dealing with a lot of other stuff.

Someone who at that point was like a mentor to me started randomly talking about people who live outside their means and go into debt and the bigger problem with such a person's world view. He said that nowhere does it say life is supposed to be fair. Nobody's holding a gun to God's head and saying 'make life fair'.

While I don't totally agree with what he said, it really helped me find success later and eventually made me realise that 9 times out of 10, nothing is ever as bad as it seems.

"My boss really just not gonna call the other boss so we can get the hell outta here? We are out here in the rain, in our cars, waiting for someone to relieve us. But we gotta wait here until she wakes up. Doesn't she know we supposed to be off in four hours? Like why the hell should i care about this job. It is a bunch of...
Why... the hell should I care."

*puts car in drives mode and drives all the way home, despite my boss is still at the post callin' me*

You can't control people, only yourself and how you react.

That single train of thought has helped me relieve myself of the anxiety I would feel when it comes to standing up for myself and simply BEING myself.

I was going through a bad breakup and I had the urge to cause problems for one of my exes out of revenge.
Then I thought about it. I realized that doing things to hurt her won't help me, and it won't make her love me anymore, which is all I really wanted.
Revenge was pointless. Time to move on.

Any person of object in your life should be an advantage. If its not, cut it loose. So many people are dragged down by “family” simply because you're related. We’re related to everyone if you go back far enough.

I try to be just as giving to my wife as she is to me. Two way street.

@Agagagagaga good point. My brother is mentally handicapped and my parents have done a bang up job over his forty years of life.

But parenting is different, obvi. If one of my relatives or friends gets sick i won't delete them from my rolodex. But toxic people bring you down.

I agree with you that toxic people will bring us down. It's a phenomenon to me why people develop a relationship, even when they know they are toxic. I guess they view the toxic person with "rose-tinted" glasses and anything that goes bad they make excuses for the toxic person or blame themselves.

@Bob92220 lack of respect and failure for her to follow through with her promises. she refused to get a job and generally began taking me for granted. i'd work my ass off and she'd reap rewards. after our son was born she wouldn't do anything for good of family, just what SHE wanted. any $ she brought in was stowed away for her and her only. we had enough, but what was mine was "ours" and what was "hers" remained "hers." she then began demanding other things - cosmetic surgeries, mercedes convertible, etc. even too much was never enough. finally, she ran to a lawyer and claimed i was abusive and our son was disabled/retarded (he's currently magna cum laude in college) and filed for divorce. ja - i gave and gave while she took and took. only bad thing i did was a one-nighter 20 years ago.

      @Bob92220 Oh hell no.

Men may be immature up until they hot 30 but they are not children in adult bodies.

Most Women and children have the following characteristics:
      - Can not take negative criticism
      - Do not understand logic
      - Use emotion to get their way
      - Throw tantrums when they don’t get what they want
      - Never take responsibility for their actions
      - Don’t think of consequences before they act
      - Live in the moment
      - Dress in ridiculous clothing in public and think it’s ok
      - Run to an authority when they are losing an argument
      - Believe screaming louder wins an argument
      - Will hit but act like a victim if hit back.
      - No concept of money

Yes there “aRe sOmE mEn liKe tHiS”
but these are common traits of almost all women and childre.
