Other than "the law", why is it so wrong to date a "minor" as a legal "adult"?

That depends on the age gap AND the maturity gap, in my opinion. For example, in a place where the age of consent is 18, I see nothing "wrong" with an 18 yr old guy dating a 17 yr old girl, or even a 16 year old. Many girls are mature for their age, while guys are not. Mentally and emotionally, they could easily be in the same place, so I see nothing wrong with this.

However, a 30 year old dating a 15 yr old or even a 16 yr old when the age of consent is 16, doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Later in life, a 14 or 15 year gap may seem large, but it's fine because you're both adults. A 50 yr old dating a 36 year old is not wrong, or even unheard of. It's uncommon at worst, but so what?

Age of consent and terms like adult are guides. That’s why it’s possible for parents to allow their kids to marry earlier then the age of consent.


You can’t have a law that covers every situation. So it’s best to say no and make ‘em wait.

Bc they’re not mature enough and can often be taken advantage of because they don’t know better. Many of them end up getting into toxic or abusive relationships with an older partner who have way more control in the relationship simply bc they are older, more experienced in life, and have more resources.

Because you yourself know that when you're at that stage of your life you don't make sound judgments that will benefit you in the long term. More often than not having too much too fast in life will catch up with you in a negative fashion later on.

When you are over 21 and you date someone that has not turned 18 and you get caught having sex, you can go to jail. And then you will have this big label called sex offender. You will have to go to the local police station and register as a sex offender. Other words known as jail bate or San Quentin quill.
