Can men really fall in love without meeting? The interaction is just like texting and sending picture exchanges, with no calls, without video calls?

I have been in a friendship with someone like this for 5 years, although in 5 years we have probably met around 5 times, I feel as though I love him, and have told him, he said he didn’t love me but cares for me and likes me as more of a friend. He said he doesn’t which seems the obvious answer, as I felt silly saying I did, but he’s definitely attached, and can’t go without contact between us.
