I think it is the way you present it to him. Make sure he knows in advance and that you know it isn’t that he is lazy or messy but busy. I think it is a thoughtful and useful gift. Nothing better than coming home to a clean home, right?
Alternatively, you could do some cleaning up at his place yourself if you wanted to go that route. That is if you have the time. If you have access to his place, you could even surprise him one day by having things tidy when he gets home and then maybe have a nice dinner ready. Either way, I’m sure he will appreciate it.
