My bosses are actually the reason I started seeing a therapist.

Your mind and your mental health are just like your physical body and physical health. You sometimes need a check up and some treatment.

That's okay. That's valid.

Mental health in your mom's day was negatively stigmatized. She was probably raised thinking if you put your head down and suffer, that was normal.

It isn't normal.

It's normal to seek help, to find support, and learn to cope.

And your mother clearly doesn't know how to do those things given her clear hatred of therapy.

Honestly, going to therapy has made me a better employee. When you feel better outside of work, or just better in your own skin, you perform better.

Think of it this way: you've got a headache. Your work productivity will suffer while you suffer. But getting help for it means you'll feel better and will perform better.

And chances are solid your coworkers also go to therapy. 80% of adults have mental illness of some kind. Among your coworkers are people who seek therapy regularly.

It's fine. It's normal. It's healthy.

Ignore your mom. She doesn't know. She was raised not to know.

But you don't live her life. You live yours. If therapy will help you, then give yourself permission to seek that help.

a lot of people go to therapy. And yes she's right that's why you don't tell anyone you go. It's kept confidential, so just don't tell anyone. If someone asks just say "what does this question have to do with the job" or just lie to them.

So you weren't mentally ill, but you went to therapy by mistake? If you went when you were young and you are not diagnosed with a delusion disorder, it's fine. If you just have depression, adhd or anxiety, it's fine. Don't worry about it.

It'll only be a problem if it's something serious like schizophrenia or a delusion disorder which you don't have so you are okay.

I work and have my own place, but when people ask me I just tell I "I live with my pops. I am looking for work right now" because I don't want people knowing my business. They ask where are you going, just tell them you're meeting up with friends or something.

Well, I think you obviously need to hide it as much as possible but therapy really helps if you have the right therapist for you.
