What does it mean when someone is our exact type on paper, but we still aren't feeling them?

Have you ever had a situation where you've tried to go out with someone who is AMAZING on paper: beautiful/handsome, nice person, funny, kind, ambitious, intelligent, etc. On paper they seem perfect. They have all the qualities you want. But you still just don't like them? Or you just don't feel a click or chemistry with them no matter how hard you want to?

I'm just wondering, what does it mean when someone is your exact type on paper, but you just can't feel anything for them? Why do we feel romantic chemistry with some people and not others? Or we fall for someone and DO have chemistry with someone who is not our "perfect type" initially?

It just means that you don't have enough experiences to define what is your "type", if it doesn't work in practice. Besides there is not an exact "type" but more like preferred traits, with time you'll understand which traits attract you more and which ones repel you, and they will be way more specific than just "intelligent, funny" etc. The things you listed are generic things that everyone would agree with, but because generic, can't be specific for each of us. There is a whole load of things in the middle of that list.
The more you get relationships and dates, the more this picture will be more clear to you. Most likely you'll start by learning what you want to avoid, and not by logic but by bad experiences.
I'm going to give you an example of what it would (could) be my checklist of traits that would put and maintain chemistry (not feelings, but chemistry is a base for them), between me and a person: understands me on an existential and psychological level, shares my same interests and with the same attitude, shares my same type of humor, shares my values, is available/accessible/empathetic, is full of news and inputs, doesn't have malice/competition, is easygoing and fun, has great communication skills especially during problems, has his shit put together and is not clingy/draining, is successful in what he does and wants to go further, open minded, has a good esteem of me, can give me space [and many, many more].
You can see our lists are very different (and mine is generally valid for chemistry in a friendship-only too!).
At your age, I would have never been able to sort out this list, probably I would have resumed it with:"Intelligent, similar". You can also see how your list is more about how the guy should "be", taken alone, while mine is more about how sharing time with him would be as a result and I put importance in compatibility. Chemistry is a result of sharing afterall...
Experiences will definitely orient your list more on the direction of compatibility, with a glimpse of how a long term interaction would be with them.
However, you don't need to define a checklist to have a successful relationship. You might just get an irrational crush on someone, getting reciprocated and why not, it might work for some years, or ever! So far, I think you should go where your heart spontaneously goes, and things will unfold. As long as you're not trying to marry and settle with a life plan, you don't really need to define a checklist...
