Is that an American dating way?

He is American. I'm Asian. We met at a Thai temple, which hosted a festival. He came to me and asked my number; my girls said to take a shot and give a chance to each other. So I gave him my number, and he called me that night. He is polite and shows a positive attitude at the beginning while calling or messaging. But he sometimes said flirting words, as he is a virile man, do I like kissing? Does the American man always express like that?
There are other things I couldn't understand. We met on April 12; the dating started around the end of April. He lost his job at the beginning of June; then, he started complaining he didn't have money. He always mentioned a lot of bills he had to pay. When we hung out, he jokingly asked me to pay. I paid serval. And he always likes saying now you know what
it would help if you prepared for me a Christmas gift when we talk about a product, like kitchenware, Alexa...
When using chopsticks, he asked me: Are you willing to buy chopsticks for me? Does he make fun of me? Do you often do that when you are with your girlfriend/boyfriend?
It's three months, enough to pay for everything for him?
