I wouldn't associate the word "sure" with romantic feelings. However, when the word "sure" is used in this context sounds like they were forced to answer and didn't put in much thought into it, giving off a much more of neutral tone. What would have been a better response with a more positive tone, confirming one's friendship or hinting subtle feelings would have been "Of course! , "..." an answer with emojis, Definitively!, "etc.

Or they may be trying to sound "cool" by not hinting how they actually feel about your friendship. Got to figure it out in-person
