Why do guys act like they want to date but then don't follow through?

This guy I'm seeing goes out of his way to keep me in his life. He gets upset everytime I date other people. But yet he doesn't want to invest in dating me himself. What's the point?

Do you like him? Do you want him? If not, then he should probably leave you alone and go for someone who'll actually make an effort to be with him.

Yes I absolutely like him. Well love actually. We've known each other for 10 years. I'm too scared to ask him for commitment though because I'm afraid he'll reject me. And I also wanted him to pursue me not the other way around

Stop giving yourself an excuse. You'll find out when you let it be known and plus he's supposed to doing a lot to keep you around... that doesn't sound like someone who's gonna reject you.
Speak up, because his actions has shown his interest, so now it's time for you to show your interest in him and go for a commitment. Otherwise, you're wasting time being afraid of a little rejection

They're probably terrified of not being able to live up to your standards. I'm not saying that your standards are unrealistic, but pursuing an exceptionally attractive woman can be a daunting task for any guy.
