How do you politely tell your girlfriend you don't wanna work with her?

She just lost her job - I've been working at a restaurant for the last 4 years while I finished school - she's pressuring me to get her a job there!
Her arguments: it will be fun, we will be together all day, I need work.

My argument: I don't want to combine my work life with my girlfriend, they aren't hiring anyway, she has a lot of tattoos and colored hair, and this is a classic Italian restaurant, they won't hire her anyway.

It's totally understandable, how you feel about this. And for what's it worth, I agree with you and think your reasoning is sound. (I have worked with coworkers/colleagues and dated them sometimes, but when it's a longterm partner and committed relationship, it's just too much, being around each other all the time. It leaves no room to breathe, or stories to tell about what happened in each other's absence.)

I imagine you can go one of two routes here:

1. Tell her, just as you told us, that they have a dress code and they're a classic Italian restaurant, "and while I don't have any problem with your style and choices, it won't meet their policies." Or...

2. "I don't believe in mixing work and pleasure. I feel strongly about this. It'd only cause trouble in our relationship. I really need to respect that and trust me on this."
