I personally look for someone with morals, values, goals, music taste and interests similar to myself. I also look for a smile similar to my own. I’d be lying if i didn't say I look for a skintone similar to my own. And although that main preference would be someone whose redbone/black, it could also be someone who is white, hispanic or Asian with a good natural tan that brings them close to my skintones. Now I have no problem dating someone of a darker, lighter, or pale shade but I do often look for someone very similar to myself in almost ever aspect. The only differences I look for is possibly eye color, height, voice, favorite color, and that overall he be more masculine since he's a man and I be more feminine since Im a woman. I would also prefer he not be as stubborn, picky, and asocial as I am.

Basically I focus on how he treats his mother and then go from there. Most (not all) men who treat their mothers well, will treat their future wife well too.
