We're just acquaintances and that's my fault of course. He's very friendly and outgoing but I always kept my distance since I get anxiety around guys and I feel like I'll embarrass myself in front of him. It's been two years now and the feelings won't go away. I don't really know what to do.

That shyness is normal in both genders. You can always speak to someone you trust about it if it really prevents you from doing most of what you like.

As for the boy:
Try talking to him about normal things. School ("Did you hear what professor X did?), Movies and series ("Did you see film X"? If not that could be your opening, like I was watching it alone next week care to join me?), animé, which I already know you like...

His interests can be the topic of conversation too, he would appreciate that.

But I can't stress this enough, just because he's your crush, doesn't mean he's a nice guy. Walk before you leap.

Yeah, I'm a guy. And sometimes I meet those girls who keep texting you, and engage with you, but when you actually invite them to something, they either decline or panic.

Yeah this is usually taken as a bad sign by us. I personally will invite you a second time a good chunk of time later, and after that move on.

If it’s face to face, try to find a mirror or use your phone (make sure the screen is off). Show him/her your phone or mirror and tell him/her that this is your crush. Don’t worry, it will take some time for them to get it (especially with the phone). Make sure you make it as cheesy as possible. Soften them up first such as saying “I really really like this person but I’m really shy to show you who it really is”, if they keep pressing then that’s your move.
