Is it wrong for a young 18 year girl to want to date a girl or guy much older? if so why?

Older men (can't speak for women) bring stability, resources, and experience to the table. I don't see why this would be an issue. I love how it's just presumed that the guy is a predator by a lot of people with no actual bearing on the man himself. And frankly to be taken advantage of is to LET yourself be taken advantage of. Unless he's physically restraining you; you are choosing to be in that relationship so if things don't work out or shit goes sideways always remember you chose that relationship.

The one older woman I've been with had much the same power imbalance except I was the boy (definitely boy as I was 19 and she was in her mid 40s) in that encounter. I learned a lot from her as to how to play the game but she was in fact very manipulative and I recognized this so I bailed. Easy as that.

It can be. If it's what they really want, and understand the difficulties that might happen due to the age difference, then go for it.

But if you're still living with your parents, don't really have your own life, or suspect some grooming happened in your youth, you should re-evaluate your thoughts and feelings.

It's dangerous. People willing to date someone much much younger than them are looking yo have some superiority and be validated as smart or strong or better in some way. They don't want you, they want someone naive to look up to them or worship them or whatever it is to inflate their ego. But the result is you will be mistreated, condescended, used, or even harmed.

So I'm going to respectfully dis-agree. Certainly there instances when what you mentioned occurs, however, I would have personally seen many more instances wherein and among a vast spectrum of age differences have naturally functioned very well together in relationships, often the balance even complimentary in nature to their unions... so though it is true if she were to notice any od those tendencies existing I would suggest as you that in that specific circumstance the relationship would bot be a good idea... it would be becuase of the behaviors, not the age difference.
