I don't think it's considered edgy or cool (at least in my country) it's just considered either as being the norm (guy are shocked when girls aren't promiscuous) or as something dirty / slutty.

There's a divide between people who like it and want to force everyone to be like that and the others who absolutely hate it and think of anybody that does it as utterly disgusting.

I don't know, I guess people can't accept others people because they feel threathened by them or something.
Like a promiscuous guys would feel judged by a virgin person (or someone who don't do hook up) and so would want to force the person to be like him (like this it would make him feel better about himself) and the others think they have the best opinion, better than others (cause not having hook up / staying pure is in culture since more than 2000 years)
