For me at least, it would be hard to go a year without starting to get attached, but if you want more, you'd need to have a talk with them. See how they feel about it and what they want out of the relationship, to mutually change things up.

we haven't had talks no he's made a few small gestures yes but then he does other things that feel the opposite so equally mixed signals.

Well if you want more, be honest and be kind about it. Sounds like you haven’t given him any reason to change the situation. He’s having his cake and eating it too. Either you walk away and he realizes he wants you or you realize he doesn’t. You then can stop wasting your time or feeling hurt by someone who isn’t giving you what you want. Then you put that time into finding someone on the same page. Unless you want to keep it casual then none of what I said applies. Doesn’t seem that way though l.

Why would I do that? It could be ten years, it doesn't matter.
I don't know why women think friends with benefits or casual sex will eventually turn into a committed relationship. The odds of that happening are slim and none.
