Have any of you went through with something even though you knew before hand that the outcome would be bad or not what you expected/wanted?

If so, why do you think some of us do this? I tend to do this while dating.

My ex-wife wanted me to buy a house and move to California. But at the time I knew we were less than 2 years from divorce. Or at least I knew the marriage was toxic as hell and I wanted out, but I wanted to pay off our other properties before buying other house so when I divorced her everything would be paid off. I knew that she only wanted the house in California so she could live in it after divorce. So I was slow walking the whole thing and never had any intention of buying a house in California at that time... but I played along like I would and only told her I would spent 400K on a new home. So in the area we were looking at I knew there was no way she would find a home up to her standards for 400K.

So she went through 6 different houses and each time I kind pulled the plug on it by saying no because its too expensive. In the end she found a home for 450K and I ended up buying it. I only did it because it was a great investment property and felt I was getting it at great great deal.

In the end she moved to California and within 6 months filed for divorce. Now I had to put 40K down on the house, when we bought it for 450K, but 18 months later when the divorce was final we sold it for 580K. My split was 63K so minus the 40K I put down you can say I made 23K on the deal... but that's not really true because I had to pay the mortgage on it for 11 months at 2,600 a month... so my total investment in the house was 68K so I lost 5K in the deal.

She on the other hand had to carry the mortgage for 12 months so she spend 30K on the mortgage and make 30K on the sale.

But I got the divorce so you in the end as they say, the reason why divorce is so expensive is because it is worth it.

Marriage. Thought it MIGHT turn bad and become a divorce.
Sadly, 20 years later I was proven correct.
Would NEVER do it again.
