Why do Chinese women care so much about what kind of job you have?

I made a profile on Facebook dating a couple years back that I don't use anymore. I had a profile on some other dating sites a few years ago. I got lots of messages from Chinese women who lived in China, I assumed they wanted to become US citizens. The first thing they always wanted to know after saying hello was "what is your career?, what kind of job do you have?" etc. If I told them what kind of job I had, they would just stop replying shortly after. I started lying and just said "I don't have a job right now, I'm looking for one" and they would just vanish. None of them ever responded after that.

I am guessing you didn't know that Chinese women have very high standards and demands? Aside from ones looks, some can be very materialistic but more so because I would think many are just really concerned about the future financial health of their marriage - hence why there is an emphasis on the husband to be somewhat successful in their career, as having money (security) is a very important issue to them. If you or your husband cannot support the family, what's the point of the marriage is what they'll ask. Also 'face' or reputation in their families (prestige) are considered factors in their choice. Chinese women happen to be very practical, intelligent and hardworking people and they see that if their potential spouse-to-be is not on the same page finance-wise you won't get a second look from them. I know about this because I live in Asia.

In recent years it has been hard for many families in Asia to get married because of the poor economy. Because of unbelievably high rental and purchase costs of homes in the region (many costing 3-4 times of cost of the same sized home in say US or Europe), many Asian men who aren't overly successful never really get the chance to get on the home ownership ladder and hence marriage because the two are interrelated.

Chinese women are actually the most likely to be gold diggers. They are the most materialistic culture in the world. That's what you get when you oppress people with communism, lots of corruption. In Chinese culture, women will not even marry you unless you buy them a house. Not buy a house together, you have to buy them a house and give it to them.

In Asian countries education and careers are taken very seriously. A Chinese peasant girl will hope to find an educated man, or a man with a career, for a husband.

"I don't have a job right now; I'm looking for one" is an automatic disqualifier.
