My crush won’t date me because of his friend?

So basically I approached my crush and he told me his friend really liked me and he couldn’t do that to him. “don’t get me wrong you’re extremely beautiful but I don’t want to lead you on or hurt anyone” “he really likes you he’s told me about you and I was like oh I know her!” and I was pretty bummed because I don’t like his friend at all but I told him I respected him for being honest and respecting his friend. He was nice about it but it kind of stinked I basically got rejected. What can I do? :(

Honestly I’d say to just respect his decision and move on. I could suggest other routes, like letting him know you aren’t into his friend, or relaying that to his friend on your own. But if he values his friendship so much that he’d miss a chance with you, then I think any efforts to change his mind on your part would cause a mess. He didn’t offer to find a solution to this situation or express mutual interest, just complimented you basically and swept any potential off the table. Anyway, there’s plenty other fish in the sea.

I guess it sounds as if his friend matters a lot to him, and he doesn't want to hurt him. Little does he know you're not interested in him. Can you confide in him enough to tell him you're not interested in his friend? I would ask him on the side if it wasn't for his friend, would he go out with you? And if he says yes, then all you need to do is convince him to go out with you, and have his friend understand he is not your type.
