A man on Instagram pretending to be my ex?

I found out a creepy man on Instagram was pretending to be my ex and saying horrible things to get me to stop liking my ex. Then I told my ex and he said wtf I would never say that, and he was like who have you been talking to? I found out it was a man that lived in another state. Why would someone be this desperate?
