When both parties refer to each other as the other persons girl/ or man, does it count as a boyfriend/ girlfriend relationship?

Since now in this era some guys don’t ask out girls anymore. But what I wanna say is, since I’ve heard stories that many couples get referred by or refer the person they like or that likes them back as their man or girl, and that they both would agree to that, they officially become boyfriend/girlfriend. I don’t know if it’s the same as to being asked the big question “ will you be my girlfriend/ bf” . What’s y’all opinions on this.

Depends..

Sometimes I refer to the girl that I'm trialing out, as my girl, when people ask. I do this simply because explaining what we really are is long and often times on a constantly sliding scale... As early relationships usually are.
