What is so attractive about the British accent? Why does nearly everyone love it?

My stepdaughter, who has a beautiful British accent, moved to the US 13 years ago. She loves her life but is determined to keep her accent. Every so often when we speak, she asks me if her accent has changed. apart from a very few words it hasn't. H daughter on the other hand, couldn't sound more Californian if she tried.

I love to hear English as when spoken properly in the UK, although we have a lot of regional accents for a small island. I also enjoy the countless variations I hear from people all over the world.

I don't know. I myself have it. Think its a but troublesome outside British shores because i have to sometimes talk slower and stress more on pronunciations so that others can understand. Also, i like certain British accents. Britain is home to loads of different native accents. I personally quite like the Welsh and Manchester accent.

I think the easiest is the standardised from the South which is mainly portrayed in movies. Kind of like the posh one since its rather clearer and spoken pretty much at a reasonable pace and i feel its mainly that one which is taught to people from non-English speaking countries.

Northern accents can be a lot faster or slower with the use of more slangs. Also they pronounce every day words differently too. For eg: but is not pronounced like but. The way they say it, it will rhyme with put instead.

I don't know.. I guess everything about the pronunciations/ vowels/ and consonants

are all smooth.. and not harsh?

probably calming, and we always associate them with ‘proper’ and ‘dainty.’

You'd be surprised how many variations of accents and dialects we have. Just as an example. I lived in a town called Accrington. 5 miles to the west it's a different dialect. 5 miles to the east and absolutely unrecognizable. I couldn't even understand the accent/dialect for a few years. The difference between towns just 5/10 miles away is astonishing. This exists in every single part of the country. I am British and even I hold my hand up and say I have no clue what they're saying in some places. It's an interwoven tapestry. I have met many a foreigner who is shocked they can travel 5 miles and encounter an accent they can't understand. I live in Liverpool and even after 9 years here I have no clue what some people here say.

I think it's because of the association implied. a lot of love interests or in books and films have British accents. Said characters and people are usually intelligent, beautiful/handsome, and romantic.

Used to annoy my Californian girlfriend all the time when I lived in the US. I'd have American waitresses literally fawning over my accent right in front of her. Flirting was an understatement.

People need to be aware though. There's many, many, many more accents and dialects in the UK than the USA. Most people don't speak the way they do on 'The Crown'

I am British and even I struggle with some. I have lived in Liverpool for 9 years and still can't understand some of them lol

Some of the regional accents can be very hard to decipher. Bear in mind that the UK also has 4 countries, England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, each with distinctive dialects and their own languages which are still spoken by many.

I don't know the answer and it differs so much region to region , but I love it too , my girlfriend from London ( Years ago ) , just everybody loved her accent , yet USA? hmmm , when I hear in Thailand , it doesn't appeal.

Love UK accent , don't know why.
