Is it normal to cyber stalk the person you're dating?

I just found out my new boyfriend of 2 months had been cyber stalking me the whole time. I couldn't figure out why this whole time he never asked me a single question... nothing... made small talk only. In fact I post a question here asking why would someone would never ask any questions to the person they're dating. Well, I finally found out... he didn't need to! He already knew more than he could imagine just from the web. Divorce, finances, work, house, everything. I feel violated. This whole time he said he was not the nosey type and didn't want to pry. It was the opposite!! (by the way I broke up with him). TY!

I am NOT referring to info I personally uploaded. I'm referring to public records beyond my control such as court documents, real estate info, next of kin, etc.

It’s definitely normal to look people up and go through their profiles a little bit.
but the fact that he did it for months and found out all that personal info about you is creepy.

it's not "stalking" if someone is taking a look at the information that you freely and publicly provide on social media. just saying. if you think it's creepy what he knows about you from the internet, maybe you should think more about the stuff you put on the internet in the first place. like he can't find "private stuff that you don't share" on the internet.

Actually a lot of records can be online even if you’ve never posted them. I’ve found websites that have had my current and old addresses and my phone number as public information and I’ve never posted those myself.

@JustinTheGreat they can't know your numbers and adresses if you didn't post them somewhere. where are they supposed to get this information from if it's not public information?

I think they just get the addresses from public records. They even have my address that I lived at when I was a child.

Okay but for someone to go out their way to track down your address is still creepy lol
And even if it’s public, they still didn’t post that information for people to find themselves. So it’s not like they were asking for people to search their address

I don't know man. for me things like "looking someones telephone number in the telephone book" isn't stalking. for me stalking is tresspassing into their garden to stare through the window.

It’s still breaking boundaries regardless. Maybe not “stalking” but if someone didn’t give me their phone number personally, I wouldn’t feel comfortable searching it up and randomly calling them. It’s weird lol
