Guys, Did I friendzone him? Should I make the first move to see how he reacts?

My guy friend asked me to go to the pool with me after we worked out at my apartment's gym. I said yes and when we got to the pool he said the water was too cold so he went to the jacuzzi and I followed him in. We didn't plan on getting in the jacuzzi that day so he was just wearing a t shirt and some workout pants. He didn't want to get his shirt wet so as he was about to take it off we made eye contact and he blushed and we laughed so I looked away and he took his shirt off (the first time this has happened!) After talking together (it was at night so it was dark and it was raining a little so it set the mood) a bit and when we both became silent he broke the silent by saying "how's life" and we both realized that was awkward so we started giggling and talked more. Long story short, my dad suddenly caught us in the jacuzzi together and when he left to leave us alone I told my guy friend that the man that just said hi to me was my dad and that now I had to tell him about us. We have been going to the gym together about 10 times during the week for like 1 to 2 hours and he has asked me if I wanted to go shopping after 2 times. He is always nice to me in a gentleman like way and I feel there is some chemistry going on. Anyway he said that he would introduce himself to my dad and was saying what he would tell my dad out loud to me. He said "Hi I'm (his name), and I'm (my name)'s b... oh I almost said omething else lol, I'm her friend." I think he almost called himself my boyfriend! So when we went to my dad I kind of emphasized that he was my friend in front of both my dad and the guy. I do like him but I don't know if he likes me and knows that i like him, but my dad suggested that I should try and go on a walk with him and hold his hand and see how he reacts. I also catch him looking at me at school or in the gym and we smile and laugh when we make eye contact. Should I try that? Or is his behavior not really showing that he likes me so should I not try?
