Why is the best & least awkward way to tell a friend you like a friend beyond friendship and may want to try dating (asking for a friend) ?

I'm a little confused with the pronouns here.

So you have a friend who has a friend that she sees as more than a friend? So there are three people here: you, and the other two?

She just needs to say it. That might not be easy if she is shy and freezes, but that's what needs to be done. She just needs to say something like "You know, I see you as more than a friend."

Timing matters also. But waiting on the perfect time ends up being procrastination after procrastination. There is no perfect time. I suppose that ideally she would want a quiet time when nobody else is around. But that time might not present itself. Too much procrastination can completely ruin it.

Or she could do like a girl in HS did with me. Suddenly out of the blue she said "So when are you going to ask me out?". Even a shy guy who totally sucks at reading the signs can figure that one out.

Then there is always body language. She can wrap her arms around him and stick her tongue down his throat. jk, a shy girl isn't going to do that - but it would work.

Of course, if neither of these people is you, then you can do it for her. (I mean to tell the guy that your friends likes him, not stick your tongue down his throat.)

They are already friends, which means that having a convo with each other ia normal and are comfortable together and that's perfect to take the next step...

All you have to do is tell them the truth...

Personally if i was in this situation and for sure in my age right now, i'd tell them that i'd like to get closer to you and i have feelings for you more than just a friend and i can't hide them anymore, don't be shy to tell me how you feel about me because i'm already in my comfort zone since i took off this from my chest, i'd like to know if you share the same feelings with me and if it's a yes than let's start a new path, a path that will lead us to something more beautiful and more exciting than just being friends and if you don't share with me the same feelings, well i'll be sad for awhile but it is what it is, i don't expect the same feelings that i have for people to be the same towards me...

I'll just wish you the best and move on!

The word "friend" is in there so many times I am not sure I followed right, do you mean you have a friend you are interested in maybe dating, or do you mean that your friend has another friend that they are interested in dating or what? Is the person you want to ask single, if you don't know you should find out, this is usually easy you can just ask without it seeming weird. Since I am not sure the situation I don't want to start listing ideas I might go down the wrong path for the situation!

I am firmly against the sentences example part. It has to come from you, not us. Sit down, relax, think of why you like him and how he makes you feel and write all those thoughts and feelings down. Then when you're ready, meet him in person and say those things to him. You could read it from the note, if you're that nervous about it, I've always had a screw it mentality and just went for it.

So, your friend could tell her friend how she feels about him outright, but perhaps it is better to try dating first before opening up about her feelings in an overt way. So something like this:

”I really enjoy how we get along and think you’re a great guy. I was wondering if you would like to try dating and see where it leads?”

Your friend can be clear about her intentions, hint at the fact that she likes the fellow, but not delve into how she is attracted to him or has strong feelings for him. If the guy has interest in her he will respond affirmatively. If he doesn’t, she will have kept the advance casual and have spared herself quite a bit of emotional discomfort. It still might not be easy for her, but wondering what might come of the relationship has difficulties all its own.

The next time you see him and give him a hug…giggle just a little. When he asks what’s up tell him that you just remembered a dream about him.
his level of interest in the dream may give you an indicator of his level of reciprocal interest.
if it’s low interest then it’s an easy and less painful let down for you.
if it’s high interest then…you better have a good imagination and story telling ability to hook him and drag him along.

When to least awkward I think of not getting too deep into feelings. If that's the right approach for you it could sound like. Hey would you like to go on a date with me tonight? Friends don't go on dates. You could see how he reacts and play it from there. This way you're not on the hook for spilling your guts and having to feel awkward.

If he says yes then she how he advances after the date. If you're really good friends, in my opinion, take it slow, try to be present and not worry so much about what's going to happen... just enjoy each other's company.

If he says yes to a date and doesn't really move forward with being more than friends you could try that a few more times. Like what about another date? And then if it advances more from there great. If not you could always ask do you like the idea of dating me more than being friends?

I think you tell them straight up. All of it is awkward, right? You face rejection, the possibility exists of the friendship hitting the rocks, but the alternatives are far worse. Either you don't say anything, which is the worst outcome, or you try something not direct and it just looks clumsy and immature.

The other, similar, alternative, is just to spend time together. Coffee. Food. Go running (or whatever shared activity). Concert. Movie. Play. The shared time will send a message.

I was in that situation but what you can do is tell her that she should tell him that she likes him and ask if he feels the same. If he doesn't than you understand how he feels and you both can still be friends. It's the best way to ask and you can still stay friends.

From experience it's a tough spiral and it can only be solved with decisive action.

You distance yourself a bit, then you ask him out without specifying if it's a date or not. When you meet up you have a conversation and eventually you ask if he could see the two of you together and that it's been on your mind.

It's never a good idea to tell one friend that another friend likes them romantically. However, if you're talking about telling her own friend that she likes him MORE than a friend, here's an idea: wait until you're with the guy and about to leave to go home. Casually say "oh by the way, are you going to keep me friend zoned indefinitely, or are you interested in something more? You don't have to tell me right now, unless you already know, but I'd like to know". Tell her to watch his reaction and body language carefully, and then say " ok, talk to you soon".

Weeelllll, I guess one example is my example. From years ago. I had this girl friend who I realized I like. There was definitely some tension going on. So I asked if she wanted to get dinner somewhere and then come over to watch a movie. We weren't just friends after the movie was over. We were hugging goodbye and neither of us let go. So I asked her. It just kinda slipped out.

It does help being friends for quite some time beforehand as well
