How to overcome this fear?

So I have been crushing on this guy since 1 year. He was my colleague so I didn’t want to make it awkward so I didn’t say but I felt he knew I had a soft corner also I feel he has too. Now after 10 months he contacted me so now I want to show him that I am interested but don’t want to be so direct. I want to take it gradually but the thing is I get so scared while texting him, I never take an initiative even though he behaves sweetly.
