Depending on relationship it can be a monetary survival game. Divorce, alimony, child support courts, all favor women. So some see it as cheaper to deal with her, although it usually isn't, then going through the aforementioned gauntlet of pain.

If dating, jealousy probably, maybe insecurity, I honestly never cared what my exs did after we broke up.

Men should not waste a girl's time especially if she is over 25. Just decide you want her or not if not let her go. Woman karma is strong gents if you waste her time and keep her yet not offer a relationship it might come back to haunt you in many ways later.
