Why do people hate their exes so much?

how can you hate someone who you loved so much , at one point in life? if you hated them so much, then how could you be obsessed with them in the first place?

Love and hate are not opposites. The opposite of love is apathy or indifference (strong feelings/no feelings). If you see someone you don't know walking down the street, you won't love them, but you won't hate them, either. When we say hate, we're saying our expectations haven't been met, so we're feeling hurt, angry, frustrated and disappointed. There's a fine line between love and hate, because if we don't care about a person, we won't have expectations of that person, so there will be no disappointment. When we love someone, we set up expectations of that person, so it can be hard to not feel hatred about making a significant investment and having the trust shattered.

I don't hate any of my exs, but I can understand some who do. People are capable of doing vile, evil things to each other, and in those cases, it's more understandable. But some people can't accept any responsibility for their own actions, and so the work up hatred for their ex so they can blame them for everything and absolve themselves from everything. That's all too common, and so very wrong.

I don't hate my ex-wife; I just have no respect for her as a person... there is a difference. Like you said I loved once upon a time very much, but she ended up proving that she was unworthy of that love, or otherwise completely unappreciative of it.

So after a very disputed divorce I really don't have any respect or love left for her. But I do not hate here, I seriously just don't care about her in the least.

This occurs because most people are ego driven. In turn this means their discernment is non existent so they choose a partner based on lust, obsession, lack, loneliness and boredom. As opposed to choosing one because they have so much love and contentment they need to share it (their cup runneth over). Thus they confuse lust and infatuation with love and this is why it can turn to hate so quickly.

The opposite of this is when you're led by the higher self / spirit, choose a partner through God, and / or your Godly discernment and have unconditional love and reverence. As a result of this, you choose a partner who will never betray you, thus if the unlikely event of splitting apart occurs, your love for them continues and there is no hate.

Most people have never loved, only been tricked by their own ego into thinking so and have only ever experienced long term infatuation or lust that masqueraded as true love.

Multiple reasons
Either the ex hurt them really bad and that hurt is why they hate the ex.
Or sometimes they don't wanna admit that they messed up so they project their feelings onto the partner than accept their own fault.

There's a saying, "When one learns to love, one must also bear the risk of hatred". Love can be turned into hatred in certain circumstances.

It isn't compulsory however common it is. I have sought to break up in a nice way. My best line was "I want to focus on being your friend". Worked well. She hadn't taken the more aggressive "I don't want to have sex with you anymore" seriously.
