This is another phrasing of: it‘s not you, it‘s me. Which is bullshit. Would you throwaway someone or something that was way too good for you? Nah. He just doesn‘t want you without making you feel bad
He said his ex started messaging him one month ago and when he was with me he was confused If he wants to be with her or me and again when I ask now he is not sure. He said he feels bad about himself. He had a long term girlfriend for 7 years and she was his first love they broke up 1 year ago, also he say he is still not sure if he wants her back
And he is going to psychologist
