Is it weird to go up to a guys you think are cute and ask for their number at school?

There’s tons of guys I think are super cute but I don’t have any classes with them nor do I really know them so I don't really have many options. Although it's kinda superficial or whatever is still like to at least get the chance to know theme even if we're got like gonna date or something. My type never approaches me and I almost exclusively like shy guys, nerds, and introverts. Should I just go for it and is that weird in high school?

It can be as simple as talking about how hot or cold the weather is.
