You say they wouldn't like you if they knew you in real life, without letting people get to know you. You don't actually let them be as they feel and come as they might wish. You already tell them that the relationship will be like this and you restrict them. In relationships, you have to give the other party an opportunity to take care of you or to simply be interested in you first because relationships are two-sided.
