Re kindle relationship with co worker?

So a co worker of mine started to show real interest in me. We started to date each other and everything was going very smooth. Then it started to become hard to get her to go on dates. She ended up texting me saying at this point she'd rather remain friends as she's had bad experiences in the past with workplace relationships. I never stated my intentions of making things official because I was playing it slow. I really did like her and I told her I understand her reasoning. But I felt like I didn't try hard enough to keep her. We've still been texting very often and have deeper conversations but now I'm not sure if I should state my intentions or stay true to her word and just be friends. What would you guys/girls want or do in this situation? I'm lost :(
