He's not an idiot for not knowing a color. That's especially true of all the weird names they come up with for non-primary colors.

Besides, lavender and brown are not all that far apart in color. If you were to mix paint, they both would contain red. They are both approximately within the same quarter of the color wheel.

As for the flower, some types of lavender really do lean toward brown, especially dried lavender.

I bought a new house last year, had a very old Lavender bush, which was mostly brown. Needed watering. Maybe he's just really bad at gardening

It's a light shade of purple, and a flower of the same color.

You only need to know these things if you are an artist, gardener, botonist, biologist, ecologist, or product chemist. It is also possible that he's at least partially colorblind.

But, also, lavender isn't a specific shade that everyone knows.

I'd be more worried if he knew EXACTLY what the color of lavender was. I only know because I was FORCED to wear the color for an Aunt's wedding. 😆😆😆
