I have had the pleasure of meeting a few British people in real life. They have all be very friendly and polite in my experience. I do like the accent but I like most accents different than mine.
I am married to an Aussie man. His accent is one of the things I am in love with to this day. Of course, it is hardly important what he sounds like versus the reasons I really married him, like character, personality, values, etc. But, I just adore his accent. Oddly (or maybe not) he says the same about mine.
I guess just hearing different from what you are used to is interesting. I have spent extensive time in Australia being married to one. I can say that the people I have interacted with there are all wonderful. They are such a friendly and generally happy people. I have enjoyed my time there so much. We are actually going to be moving there permanently later this year. I cannot wait to be back there. It really did feel like home because of how nice everyone was.

I'm Icelandic (living in Denmark)
I've quite a few British friends - with various of English dialects, I must admit some I do enjoy listening to more than others - encountered a couple on discord (through my British friends) who I've barely been able to understand.
I've yet to have a bad experience with a Brit.
