I think that really depends on what you want the first date to look like. Do you want to spend most of the time getting to know each other? If so ask them once you get the confidence. If you'd rather the date be a bit more personal, wait a few weeks.

Flirt a bit, get their number or snap, and once you feel like things are in a good place to go out formally, ask!

In general, most guys have waited anywhere from 3 days to 2 weeks to ask me out :)
