The way I see it is like what could have been could have been hell. And even if we conceive of those opportunities as leading to paradise, then we're putting ourselves in hell dreaming of what we missed! So I prefer to dream about what I can do in the future, not what could have been in the past if things went differently, and I think that's at least a bit more peaceful and productive.
