What do ‘hook up’ and ‘fling’ mean to you? Are they the same?

So, to me personally a fling is spontaneous and just happens unexpectedly. Two people meet and they just vibe and it is fun, there is nothing premeditated about it, it just happens and if feels natural and right and great but burns out quick, but it was the best few days or weeks of your life.
A hook up is when you are intentionally seeking someone just for sex... nothing spontaneous about it you are literally getting with this person just for sex. But a hookup can turn into a fling, and fling can turn into hookups.
It depends on the context, because these terms are used in more than one way, but GENERALLY, a hookup is a one-time thing, whereas a fling is a short-term sexual romance, but definitely more than a single day. It might be a weekend or a month or even a year, but rarely that long.
Hookup is usually a one-night stand for sex. A fling would be an extended hookup that perhaps leads to a longer spate of sex.
Flings can lead the people involved to being interested in knowing a person beyond sex.
However, both hookups and flings are usually short-lived, and the likelihood that either ends up developing into a relationship is extremely low. Sex is, most often, just sex.
To me a hook up is like a one time thing and a fling is a non-committed relationship one or both parties don't intent to get serious.

They are not tye same. Hookup is a one-time thing, you get together, have sex, and go your separate ways. A fling involves having sex multiple times with the same perdon.
Both involve noncommittal sex with someone other than the one you are in a serious relationship.
No, they're different in that a hook-up is bound and limited to the time that you meet up, after the meeting ends, it's over. Say we were to hook-up at waffle house or something. Our hook-up starts there, then if we part ways at a hotel, your place or mine, we don't see each other again.
If we start to with some frequency, then that starts a fling. That's only how I look at it though.
Hook up = casual, usually 1 night stand or infrequent friends with benefits
Fling = shorter/medium term, more experimental, likely not going to go further, sorta relationship. With intimacy (at least ideally for me).
To me, a hookup is a single sexual encounter, whether it is repeated or not. It's an individual event.
A fling is a romance running its course over a relatively short period of time, weeks or months, before ending for whatever reason.
A hookup usually means a one night stand. A fling can continue for some time.
Honestly didn't know what a hookup really meant till a couple years back. I'm assuming a hookup is specifically meeting someone for sex and a fling is just a hangout that got steamy eventually? I wouldn't know.
Hook up is casual sex, a fling is casual dating without any commitments.
Hook up implies just sex to me.
A fling while not something deep and lasting at least implies there was feelings shared. Maybe momentary an white hot. But ultimately doomed to fail.
They both are nonsensical to me.
To me a hookup is a one-night-stand or purely sexual relationship while a fling is where you spend time getting to know someone romantically even though you don't think you'll be with them for long
Both are silly and largely meaningless terms.
They mean the same thing.
Hookups/flings are for idiots.
Flings last quite a much more than hook ups. Granted hookups have the potential to become flings. Til their actual partners find out..
Hook-up is a one & done deal. Fling is an ongoing deal.
It can possibly be different meanings to different people on how they construe the 2
your saying the same thing twice
They both mean balls deep.
Semantics
Yes.
