When it comes to “cringe” stuff, how do you interpret that term?

There seems to be a lot of different takes on this relatively new slang so I thought I would ask about it

Being cringe is embarrassing. I make any and all efforts not to be cringe

Saying someone is cringe means they go against conventional societal norms

I don’t really know what it means to be cringe

Being cringe means someone who lacks awareness of their behavior in a negative way

Being cringe is fun, I like making people who don’t like me anyway freak out

It just means they’re ugly

I use the term “cringe” for people who display behaviours that are inappropriate or offensive, and rather than apologise for their behaviour and take accountability, they double down on the behaviour and show ignorance. A great example of this would be people who show off fetishes in public, like one person wearing a collar & leash while the other person walks them by said leash, in a public space where there’s families present. Leave that shit at home.

Cringe is almost it's own subculture in Gen Z and Alpha communities. There are different interpretations of it depending on how much stupid it is and the way it's presented. I think it can be all of those options depending on how it makes you feel. End goal is always something disconcerting anyway...

Using the word cringe just gets a disgusted look from my 18 year old and he just says "nope don't" and cuts me off.
