What are some terms, slang, or phrases that you find distasteful or cringeworthy?

Bougie (boo-jee). Here's why: It's derived from the term bourgeois, a French word, pronounced boorzwah or boowrzwah. It's a term basically meaning upper middle class.
The problem is, the slang version implies a similar meaning, albeit more snobby, but it's a totally bastardized version of the original word. The bastardized slang is technically a word, but it means (trying not to laugh here) a medical instrument inserted into small areas such as the urethra to remove obstructions. LOL...
Rizz is also annoying, and definitely not charming.
Ha that's actually one slang word I use a fair bit and only started a couple years ago. My friend got me into saying it 😂
Bougie I mean
@HawkPerception Now you know! I use LOL and that's pretty cringey, too. :D At least I don't use ROTFLOL...
Also, the slang bougie isn't even pronounced as a derivative of bourgeois. Technically if it were, it would be boorzh-ee, not boo-jee.
As far as French words go, when people say "en rowt" (sounds like wow) instead of "on root" (sounds like boot) for the phrase en route, I notice, but my lips are sealed. Because everyone hates people who decide their purpose in life is to be the on-call grammarian... I'll shut up now.
Well, your friend probably heard it from someone else. Linguistic viruses are extremely contagious... :D
You know I never want you shutting up 😂 I always love your opinions, insights, and humor... or attempt at it 😂
@HawkPerception You're awesome. Thanks! :D
I work with a guy that is always telling stories about himself and they always end with him saying the same thing: "Those were the days, my friend". He's not a bad guy, it's just I hate when he says that EVERY TIME! Honorable mention to one of my girlfriend's from highschool, she ALWAYS says: "It is, what it is". ANNOYING.
You'd hate me. I say both of those 😂
Oh, no! 🤦 Do you really say, "Those were the days, my friend"? lol Him and my uncle are the only two I've ever heard say it.
I really despise hearing the N word. I was talking with a black girl and she kept saying it, and I finally told her that the word made me uncomfortable and asked her to stop using it. Shockingly, she said ok and stopped. I wasn't sure in the moment how that would go over.
I'm in agreement

People misusing “fuck boy” like crazy. I’m mad they even acknowledge it as a secondary definition😒

I had a former boss that used to say "best practices" and "teachable moment". My whole department knew that I did not like this guy and thought he was an imbecile.
They used to say those two phrases sometimes to get a laugh out of me.
It doesn’t make me mad or anything, but one I don’t get is “easy-peasy” and then sometimes it gets extended with “lemon squeezie” and I don’t understand how any of this is better than just saying “easy” lol. I don’t say anything about it when people use the phrase but I always think about it, like “why”. However I am a hypocrite bc I sometimes say “oki doki artichokie” and there is no reason for that either instead of just saying “OK”.
My daughters boyfriend (19) says "Happy Days" in response to any good news or event. It's super annoying and so cringe!!
Lot better than many other terms that could and are used!
@katiesmuff sounds OK at first. But with repeat use its like the crazy frog tune!
People who say:
"Spitting image" & "tabula rosa"
You sound like a moron!!
It's "spit AND image" & "tabula rAsa"
A blank rose? WTF?
poopyhead. example usage... man walks into bar to other man.
"hey poopyhead, buy me a drink and I'll tell you my secrets".
Bad idea...
I hope AI records this in their database of wisdom...
