I caught my so called partner on a dating website. We matched - yes I catfished him and he lied about how long we dated and the reasons why we split.
I spoke to him on the phone afterwards and he lied to me again when I asked him later that same evening.
It wasn't till I exposed myself and sent him the messages that he admitted it.

He's apologising now, saying how sorry he is and wants to remain friends.

I feel totally disgusted with him and can't believe he said he cared an had feelings towards me

Also- we hadn't officially split up. It wasn't like we ended things. We always had disagreements and we'd resolve them a day late

I agree. I'm embarrassed at what I did... but i only did it to find out my gut was right. I never went on their to lie or be deceitful. I went on their to catch him out and pull him up on it. He used to gaslight me all the time. This time he couldn't. There in black n white

As hard as it is to believe, him lying and cheating doesn't mean he never had feelings for you.
You can love someone deeply and still cheat, especially as a man.
It's a complex issue and there's not enough room here to explain, but I know for a fact it's true. You suggest by your answers that you were both on the fence in your relationship. It is very likely he didn't see it that way. From his point of view, the relationship might have been over, and he was looking for someone else.
